5 RULES FOR RIDING SHOTGUN ON ROADTRIPS!

March 1, 2017

We all have that friends who does anything to sit in the front-seat! anyone wants to ride shotgun! but not anyone understands the responsibilities that come with the seat!

Its not just acting as the car-DJ it also takes full concentration, commitment and motivation! here are 5 RULES you HAVE to follow riding shotgun!

1. NEVER FALL ASLEEP!

Road trips can be long and boring to the driver. That’s why as shotgun/co-pilot, it’s your job to keep them awake and excited. So chase down that bucket of Red Bull, get used to not blinking, and show the driver you're there for them by talking continuously. They will come to appreciate your thoughtfulness and commitment to the drive. You will come to appreciate how loud you can suddenly scream after chatting nine hours straight. It’s win-win.

2. PROVIDE FOOD AND DRINKS!

As your drivers co-pilot its your duty to provide him with everything he needs such as a zip of his soda and the best snacks for his enormous effort, and yes, you will ask him every 5 minutes if he wants to have a bite, zip, taste, little bit of your beverage until he screams at you to shut the F*CK up ! after this point you offer him at least one more thing to cool off as he seems a bit agitated..

3. KEEP AN EYE ON THE ROAD

Making sure google-maps is on and the driver is heading the right direction is just one of your tasks as co-pilot, you also need to see potential hazards and willingness to grab the wheel when the driver needs to light up his cigarette! big tip: We have to turn right in 30 km, 29,5, 29, 28,5.... is not the way to do it!

4. BE AGREEABLE ON YOUR MUSIC PLAYLIST!

Riding shotgun means addressing the music tastes of everyone in the car, so be open-minded. When someone likes a song you don’t care for, don’t say, “I bet you’d like dead puppy's, too!” When someone asks if you can switch a song, don’t say, “Why don’t you climb up here and make me?!” And when the driver asks you to shut off the music so they can concentrate on the road, don’t say, “That’s it! It’s go time!” Fights in the front seat of a moving vehicle rarely end well. To stop anymore arguments ! The driver always has the last saying!

5. THE DRIVER IS NOT YOUR THERAPIST!

I think this one is pretty clear without me telling, but if you just don't get it.. every conversation starting with "this is quite a personal issue and a long story but" probably makes your driver want to take an OD and drive of a cliff.
